When it comes to inline skates, the wheels you choose to ride on could quite possibly have the biggest impact on how well you skate. Inline skate wheels come in many different shapes, sizes, and materials (or composition). Different wheels are made for different skating styles, so picking the proper set of wheels is going to prove to be a very important choice.

When you are out shopping for that perfect diamond engagement ring, if you have done your homework your choice of diamond will be based on a set of criteria known as the 4 C’s. Well, buying wheels for your inline skates also has its four basic criteria to be considered: your body weight, your skating level (novice, intermediate, advanced, pro), your skating style, and lastly, your comfort zone in regards to speed. There are 4 properties, those being size, profile, core, and hardness. These are all equally important, since they all have a direct bearing on your choice of wheels.

First up, we will go over the hardness, or durometer, of the wheel. The higher the durometer is, the higher the hardness of the wheel. Harder wheels will last much longer, but they will also transmit much more of the bumps and shocks of the ground to your foot and knees. In general, you will be able to find wheels in the range of 74A which is the softest, up to 88A, which is quite hard. The A denotes the durometer scale. The average recreational skater will be interested in wheels in the range of 78A to 82A, since these wheels provide a fairly decent compromise between grip and smoothness or roll.

In general, you will want harder wheels for skating on smooth surfaces like skating rinks or smooth concrete, if you are a heavier skater, or you value your wheels lasting longer over comfort of ride. In contrast, a lower durometer wheel will be wanted if you will be riding on streets and other rough surfaces a lot, area lighter rider, desire better shock absorption or just want better traction overall.

Next up is wheel size. Larger wheels will allow you to skate faster since they will provide less rolling resistance. Sadly, as you get larger, stability goes down, and requires the skater to be of higher ability to make good use of them. Smaller wheels will have lower top speed, but will provide for a much more stable ride. Aggressive skaters will generally go for smaller wheels for stability, because speed is not quite as much of an issue, whereas speed skaters will use the much larger diameter wheels for the decreased rolling resistance. Recreational skaters will generally find themselves with a choice of wheels between 72mm and 80mm. Be sure to check the users manual for your particular skates, because different models will have limits to the minimum and maximum wheel sizes they accommodate.

There will be more about wheels next time. Trust us, there is plenty to be said!

Rollerblading is a truly wonderful sport and it provides for great exercise, keeping you in shape. People from all over the world and all kinds of walks of life can enjoy rollerblading simply because its very nature is fun and easy. Coupled with the enjoyment of the sport of rollerblading, however, you also have some important safety measures that need to be followed if you want to avoid accidents, falls and injuries.

Certain rollerblading situations are going to be beyond your control, and knowing this is important. However, this does not mean that you should simply throw all caution to the wind. You may have to take a nasty spill occasionally while rollerblading, but you’ll likely only suffer minor scrapes and injuries if you are careful. You may also crash while rollerblading, which can result in a concussion or serious injuries if you are not careful. It is vitally important, as you can tell, that you use the proper rollerblading gear when you go out so that you can either completely avoid these injuries, or at least lessen how badly they injure you when they do happen.

First and foremost, the most important piece of protective equipment for rollerblading that you can have in your arsenal is a rollerblading helmet. You should absolutely never, ever go rollerblading without first securing your helmet properly on your head. It should fit your head adequately and it should be tightly attached in order to protect your head. If your rollerblading helmet is oversized or too tight, it will not help you. Oversized rollerblading helmets are not going to provide any kind of protection whatsoever, and on the other hand small helmets will be too uncomfortable, too tight and may even restrict your vision. The interior lining inside your rollerblading helmet is also important, as you need cushioning and padding in order to maintain protection and comfort.

You also need to make sure that you have the complete package when it comes to your protective gear for rollerblading, meaning that you should also have elbow pads, knee pads and wrist guards in order to keep yourself safe when you go rollerblading.

It is also vital that you learn the basics of rollerblading before you hit the streets. If you want to avoid rollerblading accidents then you need to be willing to practice all of the basics including rollerblading forward, rollerblading backward, stopping, turning and even falling. Do this before you hit the streets, because they are far less forgiving when it comes to crashing or potentially hurting yourself.

Other things matter as well. For example, you need to watch out for potholes and cracks in the road, you need to watch out for water and slippery oil, and you need to watch out for road hazards and road signs. The more aware of your surroundings that you are, the better off you will be in the long run. Rollerblading is not really a dangerous sport, but it can be if you are not careful.

There are many people in the world that are taking pleasure in rollerblading for fun because it is an exciting sport and makes for a great workout. The sport is generally easy to learn, and learning the maneuvers is often also easy. Rollerblading allows you to be active physically and alert mentally, developing your strength and balance in the process. Rollerblading is also capable of being dangerous, however, especially for people that are still learning how to enjoy this sport properly. There are ways for you to minimize risk and to prevent rollerblading injuries, learning all about rollerblading safely in the process.

- * Helmet: The helmet is protective gear that is specifically designed to keep your head safe. You need to wear your helmet all the time if you want to prevent fatalities and other serious damage. Helmets are not going to guarantee 100 percent safety from harm but what they will do is significantly decrease the possibility that you will sustain a head injury if you fall. You need to make sure that your helmet is properly fitting your head. If your helmet is too big or not big enough, then it will only harm you rather than helping you or protecting you. Small helmets are too stiff and uncomfortable for your head. Large helmets do not properly defend against injuries.

When you go shopping for a helmet, you are going to want to select a style that has groves for good ventilation and a narrowing of the front. Your helmet should be built tough, like ACE Bucky helmets and B2 helmets, which come in a myriad of different styles, models, sizes and colors.

- * Pads: Rollerblader pads such as elbow pads and knee pads are going to be just as vital to your health, welfare and safety as your helmet. If you have suitable elbow and knee pads on, then there is a much lower chance that you will fracture a bone if you fall in an unfortunate way. These protections are capable of supporting you and shielding your major bones and joints when serious accidents happen to occur.

- * Wrist Guards: This is another important piece of gear, functioning to soak up the trauma and shock associated with a fall by protecting your forearms and your wrists. When you stumble or fall, your impulse will be to hand on your hands, which can break your wrists if you are not careful. Wrist guards, then, are vitally important to protecting these fragile and vital bones until you can learn how to fall in such a way that your wrists are not put in harm’s way.

Along with these pieces of safety equipment, it is vitally important that you comply with all of the ethics and laws of the road way at all times. Be sensible and always be aware of your boundaries and your capabilities.

Kite surfing is a sport that has gained significantly in popularity over the past couple of years. This is very understandable, at least if you watch some of the champion Kite surfing events and see how much fun it looks. Kite surfing is also known as kite boarding or fly surfing depending on who you ask. There are certain pieces of Kite surfing gear that you are going to need if you want to get the most out of this sport. The most important pieces of Kite surfing gear include a traction kite, harness, control bar, flying lines and your kite board.

The Kite board - You are going to want to make sure that you are using a kite board that is designed specifically for the purpose of Kite surfing. Large kite boards tend to work better when the wind is gentler, where as smaller kite boards are capable of maneuvering more quickly. Two factors that you need to keep in mind when considering size are weight and skill. The rider will be attached to the board using a leash.

The Kite – Kite boarding kites are specifically designed for two lines or four lines. Kites with four lines tend to be more easily maneuverable. Kites that have inflatable bladders are capable of being launched more easily from the water, but they do not tend to be as efficient. Kite boarders that are more experienced typically make use of ram air kites.

The Harness - The harness in Kite surfing is used so that the heavy pull will be evenly distributed along the entire body. Without the harness, your arms would be turned into rubber rather quickly.

The Flying Lines – The flying lines are typically composed of a thin and strong material that is known as Spectra Fiber. Kites tend to have a recommended length associated with them, but the average length for the flying lines is 120 feet.

The Control Bar – The kite board control bar is what you are going to hold onto in order to control your kite. The bars are specific to two line kites or four line kites depending on which you are using.

Common brands for kite boarding are Naish, Cabrinha, DaKine, Wipika and Slingshot. You should also always make sure to take a lesson and you should be starting slowly with Kite surfing. The gear for Kite surfing can be difficult for you to set up and use when you are not accustomed to it so make sure that you know what you are doing. When it comes to Kite surfing in the water, you need to make sure that you are always aware of your limits and that you know what you are doing in order to best benefit and to make sure that you are constantly kept safe and healthy on the water.

Surfing is a sport that does not require the use of a lot of gear, but the gear that you do need is essential. What this means is that it is important that you choose the right gear when it comes to the sport of surfing. There are a number of factors that go into determining that the best surfing gear will be for you, including your level of ability, your location and the climate in your location. A surfboard, a wetsuit and some other accessories are going to be necessary.

There are a wide variety of different surfboards for you to choose from. Long boards, for example, are surf boards that are 9 feet or longer. These are the best types of surfboards for you to choose when you are learning how to surf. They are capable of floating well and they are also capable of catching slow moving waves. Fun boards are shaped much in the same way that long boards are shaped, with wide noses and tails, but they are shorter as they are between 7 feet and 9 feet in length. These are the best boards for long boarders that are trying to move onto something a little smaller, or for full sized adults just beginning to learn how to surf. Fish boards are generally very short in length, but they are wide, which makes them ideal for the progression forward from fun boards. They work especially well in smaller and weaker surfs and they offer a greater amount of maneuverability than fun boards and long boards.

Short boards tend to be best for the more advanced surfers, and they also offer the best level of performance. They also tend to be the hardest surf boards to paddle on, and are not a good surf board for you to learn on. The two main construction types that you can choose from for surf boards are epoxy surf boards and traditional surf boards. Epoxy is quickly becoming popular because it offers a higher level of strength and a longer length, but many of these boards lack the performance and the drive of a standard traditional construction. The fin set up is another consideration that needs to be made when it comes to your surf board. The most popular design may be the tri fin, but there are also twin fin and quad fin set ups which are chosen for fish boards, and single fin set ups that come with long boards.

For colder climates and areas, you are going to need a wet suit. There are two types of wet suits to choose from, a full suit and a spring suit. If the water is sixty degrees Fahrenheit or less, opt for a full suit. You also need a leash for your surfboard and surfboard wax in order to complete your surfing gear kit.

Skate boarding and the entire skater culture seems to become more and more popular every year. Twelve-year old girls who’ve never even stood on a skate board suddenly beg their parents for skater shoes. Shoe store employees are then faced with befuddled parents who aren’t quite sure of the differences between a skater shoe and a regular pair of tennis shoes, and without the expert help, probably would have purchased a cool looking pair of sneakers that were as far removed from skater shoes as tap dancing shoes are removed from roller skates.

So what makes skater shoes different than regular shoes?

They’re designed specifically for skateboarding, with their signature flat rubber or polyurethane sole that allows skaters to make better contact with the board and have maximum control while skate boarding. They’re also made wider to allow for more grip. The differences don’t stop there, though.

Some skater shoes have air pockets built into the heel to allow more shock absorption while skating to prevent bruising. Often the shoes are made from suede, and have double and triple stitching so that they stand up to the hard work of skate boarding, particularly trick skate boarding. They have shoelace protectors that keep the laces from hanging loose and possibly causing accidents. They’re cushioned and reinforced especially for the way the feet move and make contact with the board while skate boarding, and to make the shoe more durable. Still, avid skate boarders will wear out a pair of shoes faster than someone who doesn’t skate. The rough grip on top of the board wears at the soles, especially if a skater practices regularly or does lots of tricks.

While you might think you can still wear any old shoe to skate board, consider that all these features that make skater shoes special are there, not only to make you a better skater, but to keep you safer. A skater shoe allows you to grip the board better. You have more control which makes you a better skater, but also keeps you from falling off the board or having accidents as much. Control is key in learning to skate properly and remaining on the board. If you’re wearing a regular tennis shoe, you won’t have that same measure of control and you might find yourself surprised to be on the ground, hurt.

Spend the extra money on well-designed skater shoes. You’ll skate better, and you’ll have less risk of injury. And they’re not as expensive as you probably think they are. You can find excellent skater shoes like Fallen Troopers for $50 to $75 dollars, and skater shoes made by Vans, a company that’s been making skater shoes longer than almost anyone else, will run an average of $60. Globe is another skater shoe manufacturer that makes some of the best skate boarding shoes, also in that price range. A regular pair of shoes could cost that much or more, and with skater shoes you’re getting protection built right in.

Wakeboarding is an intriguing surface water sport that was originally known as skurfing because it combines snow boarding, surfing and water skiing principles together. Wakeboarding specifically involves riding the wake of a speedboat while riding on a single board, the wakeboard. There are five different kinds of the products that you need in order to successfully wakeboard, and these products are the bindings, the wake skates, the wake vest, the wakeboard rope and the actual wakeboard itself.

When it comes to choosing the right wakeboard, there are a number of considerations that you need to make, including the rocker, the width, the length, the weight, the bottom design, the fins and the fin placement.

The bend in the wakeboard, which runs from tip to tail, is classified as the rocker. There are two different rocker types to choose from, the 3 stage rocker and the continuous rocker. Continuous rockers are smooth curves which do not change much from tip to tale and are much quicker to ride. The 3 stage rocker on the other hand can gain quite a bit more pop off of the wake, and more closely resembles a skateboard by offering two distinct bend points, though not quite as radically as a skateboard would offer.

The length of the wakeboard has an impact on the spin’s smoothness and speed. The width of the wakeboard, especially in the tip, the tail and dead center, will affect how well it sits in the water, and how hard it bounces when it comes away from the wake. With weight, the lighter wakeboards are easily to maneuver and offer better flex patterns for pops and landings.

The bottom design of a wakeboard is purely cosmetic in nature, giving the user a way to express his or her personal style as well as fine tuning and personalizing how the wakeboard rides through the water. Fins and fin placement for wakeboards dictate the release of the wakeboard. When the fins are closer to the center, the wakeboard is better and quicker when released away from the wake. When the fins are spread apart or closer to tip or tail, then the wakeboard will stay hooked into the wake for longer.

Another wakeboard product that is just as important as the wakeboard itself is the binding. You need to find a foot bed that closely matches your own foot in order to achieve the best possible fit. These materials are capable of stretching as you break them in, so eventually you may need to make regular adjustments not only to keep them in shape but also to keep them feeling proper.

Wakeskates are wakeboard products that are intended to be ridden on the water as a skateboard. They come in different sizes, shapes and surfaces and they do not require bindings in the way that traditional wakeboards do. Skate shoes are used, and there are no real set standards in the way that there are for wakeboarding.
