Wakeboarding Rope Tips

wakeboardPart of having the best possible wakeboarding experience means you having access to the right wakeboard rope, as a wakeboard rope is what will link you from the wakeboard to the boat. The importance, then, of this wakeboard role is absolutely vital to making sure that you safely enjoy this thrilling and enjoyable water sport. The first thing that you are going to need in order to enjoy this sport, which is the perfect combination between challenging and exciting, is the balance that is required in order to keep yourself steadily standing on the board while you are being pulled through the water at a truly frightening pace.

Unless you already have experience in surfing or in skiing, then you are going to need to develop some balancing skills in order to be proficient in wakeboarding. If you do not practice your balance skills, you may end up in the water a little fast. Before you begin to wakeboard as a regular, you are going to need to learn how to handle the water, which begins with learning how to lay on your back and float. Your trainer will then teach you how to get into the right position, standing on your wakeboard as the boat pulls you across the open water.

Before you buy a wakeboard rope, you are going to need to have an understanding of all of the different characteristics that a wakeboard rope is capable of possessing. You should never use any other type of rope for a wakeboarding experience, except for real wakeboard rope. Wakeboard rope needs to be capable of withstanding stretches so that you do not face any kind of recoil while you are in the air. Along with a sufficient level of stiffness, the wakeboard rope that you use should also be endowed with an adequate amount of length in order to help you along.

You are likely going to come across wakeboard rope in a variety of different lengths, measuring between 60 feet and 70 feet for example. This wakeboard rope is designed to provide convenience to riders and can be bought in whole lengths or adjustable lengths depending on your needs. The amount of elasticity present in a wakeboard rope may also be capable of varying based on the quality of the rope. Polyethylene ropes, for example, tend to stretch much more readily than ropes made from Spectra. If you are looking to perform airborne stunts, then you should be opting for a tighter variety of wakeboard rope.

If you are still developing your skills as a wake boarder, on the other hand, then you might want a shorter and more elastic rope, which will allow you to get a better feel for what you are doing without all of the recoil. Choosing the right rope is absolutely essential if you want to get the most out of your wake boarding experience next time you hit the water.

How are Roller Blading and Inline Skating Different?

rollerbladinginlineskatingRoller blading is a name that has been applied to the inline skating sport as a result of the large role that the “Rollerblade Company” played in creating popularity out of the inline skating sport. Rollerblade, Inc. was not responsible for inventing, manufacturing or designing the very first inline skates. However, the Rollerblade Company or Rollerblade, Inc. was so successful in their endeavor to market inline skates and inline skating equipment, that it led to the term “rollerblading” becoming extremely popular when referring to sports involving inline skates. Not only was this popular at the time, but the term rollerblading is still being used today to refer to the sport, even though the official name for the sport of using inline skates is simply “inline skating”.

Regardless of which inline skate manufacturing company is responsible for building a specific pair of inline skates, most inline skates are simply known as rollerblades in this day and age. The name Rollerblade has become the symbol of inline skating for most people, unfortunately overshadowing a large number of inline skate manufacturers as well as leaving out a lot of information pertaining to the history of inline skating and rollerblading. Many people, despite having skated for years, are unaware of the true history of inline skating, attributing the design and invention of inline skates to Rollerblade, Inc. when they are not actually responsible for the design of the sport.

The official name for all rollerblading or for “blading” sporting is actually inline roller skating or inline skating. The correct name for any rollerblades that are manufactured by a company other than Rollerblade, Inc. is inline skates or simply skates, rather than rollerblades or blades. If you are actually using Rollerblade, Inc. brand skates, then you really are rollerblading. If you are using any other type of skates, then the proper description for the sport is skating or inline skating. The difference between typical skating and inline skating is, of course, the arrangement of the wheels on your skates. This is because inline skates are skates where four wheels are arranged in a straight line from front to back. Roller skates or quad skates also possess four wheels, but they are arranged in the four corners of the skate instead.

Learning more about the history of inline skating is a good way to generate an appreciation for the sport. You might be surprised at what you learn about how inline skating sports came to be and how the Rollerblade, Inc company managed to successfully market them to the point where “rollerblading” became the common name for the inline skating sport and the true inventors behind the inline skate fell to the wayside.

Benefits of Surfing

surfboardUnderstanding the benefits of surfing will help you determine whether or not this is the right water sport for you.

First and foremost, do you know what surfing is?

Surfing is a unique activity involving the riding on a wave or riding along a wave using a surfboard. One of the best methods of cross training for the purpose of surfing is to take up swimming. Most of your surfing time is actually going to be spend paddling and swimming than actually riding any waves, and this is an important consideration if you are serious about taking up the sport and seeing what it has to offer you.

Now, what are the benefits of going surfing?

Surfing is a truly excellent fitness activity. The sport of surfing is capable of providing both aerobic and anaerobic exercise components. It requires that the surfer make excellent use of his or her upper body as a result of stroking through the waves, getting out on the waves and then balancing the lower body and the legs in order to ride the wave all the way into shore. Surfing, then, demands a great deal of body balance and body control, and these demands are going to strengthen the interaction that exists between your mind and your body. The surfing environment, the open ocean, is going to help to protect you from injury that occurs as a result of error.

People that go surfing are going to develop a back that is fit and square, shoulders that are strong, back muscles that are strong and legs and arms that are strong.

In order to get all of the full benefits associated with using surfing as a method of exercise, there are a number of skills that you are going to need to develop. The skills that need to be developed for the purpose of surfing include:

  • Improvements in balance, because you will rely heavily upon balance while standing on the board,
  • Paddling and swimming, because you will spend more time paddling and swimming than you will spend on the board riding waves when it comes to surfing,
  • Duck Diving, because this is how to ride through waves or to prepare for an oncoming wave,
  • Spring Paddling right into a wave, which is an important part of surfing,
  • Standing up quickly and with balance on the board, so that you do not end up wrecking before you even get to ride your wave,
  • Turning on the board without falling,
  • Controlling the movement of the board as well as exiting the wave in question,

If you do not already know how to swim or need to improve your swimming capabilities, taking lessons in a surf school is typically a good way for you to go.

Choosing the Right Board for Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is a sport that is booming all around the world. Many people are describing this unique sport is the new age of surfing. Anyone all around the world can take advantage of wakeboarding, providing that there is a body of water nearby that can be considered suitable. In order to get started on your own personal wake boarding excursion, you need to have some basic tips in your arsenal that will make it easier and more advantageous to choose the right beginning wake board. Having the right equipment for wake boarding is absolutely vital if you want to learn how to wake board effectively. Having all of the right tools is one of the most important aspects of enjoying your wake boarding adventure, so choose right the first time and you will surely benefit.

Not all of the wake boards that you encounter while shopping around are going to be well suited for you if you are a beginner to this unique and enjoyable water sport, so it would not be wise to simply go out and buy a high quality board right from the start unless you have a good idea of what you are getting yourself into. The best and most expensive wake boards are not going to suddenly, instantaneously turn you into a better wake boarder, so don’t waste your time or money. The shape and the size of your brand new wake board are the determinant factors in whether or not you will get off to a good start, and they will also play a large part in determining how well you do the first time you hit the water.

A wake board that has squared edges is generally going to be one of the best options for beginners, because it will give you a larger amount of control, which is what someone new to the sport should be looking to achieve. You are simply going to want to learn how to gain control first before you learn any cool or interesting tricks. Learning how to wake board is all about taking baby steps and mastering each step before you move on to the next. There are also single and double tipped wake board options. Double tipped boards are ideal for beginners as they are rounded on both ends and offer a higher level of control, and they are also lighter which means that making jumps is simpler as well. You may also want to consider getting a longer board, which is generally more ideal in terms of getting better control while wake boarding.

You never go out onto a baseball field for the first time and begin to hit home runs, and wake boarding for the first time will not allow you to produce incredible tricks. You need to learn control first, and having the right wake board will allow you to achieve this as long as you are willing to take baby steps for the best control.

Skate Shoes for a Skateboarding Edge

Skate boarding and the entire skater culture seems to become more and more popular every year. Twelve-year old girls who’ve never even stood on a skate board suddenly beg their parents for skater shoes. Shoe store employees are then faced with befuddled parents who aren’t quite sure of the differences between a skater shoe and a regular pair of tennis shoes, and without the expert help, probably would have purchased a cool looking pair of sneakers that were as far removed from skater shoes as tap dancing shoes are removed from roller skates.

So what makes skater shoes different than regular shoes?

They’re designed specifically for skateboarding, with their signature flat rubber or polyurethane sole that allows skaters to make better contact with the board and have maximum control while skate boarding. They’re also made wider to allow for more grip. The differences don’t stop there, though.

Some skater shoes have air pockets built into the heel to allow more shock absorption while skating to prevent bruising. Often the shoes are made from suede, and have double and triple stitching so that they stand up to the hard work of skate boarding, particularly trick skate boarding. They have shoelace protectors that keep the laces from hanging loose and possibly causing accidents. They’re cushioned and reinforced especially for the way the feet move and make contact with the board while skate boarding, and to make the shoe more durable. Still, avid skate boarders will wear out a pair of shoes faster than someone who doesn’t skate. The rough grip on top of the board wears at the soles, especially if a skater practices regularly or does lots of tricks.

While you might think you can still wear any old shoe to skate board, consider that all these features that make skater shoes special are there, not only to make you a better skater, but to keep you safer. A skater shoe allows you to grip the board better. You have more control which makes you a better skater, but also keeps you from falling off the board or having accidents as much. Control is key in learning to skate properly and remaining on the board. If you’re wearing a regular tennis shoe, you won’t have that same measure of control and you might find yourself surprised to be on the ground, hurt.

Spend the extra money on well-designed skater shoes. You’ll skate better, and you’ll have less risk of injury. And they’re not as expensive as you probably think they are. You can find excellent skater shoes like Fallen Troopers for $50 to $75 dollars, and skater shoes made by Vans, a company that’s been making skater shoes longer than almost anyone else, will run an average of $60. Globe is another skater shoe manufacturer that makes some of the best skate boarding shoes, also in that price range. A regular pair of shoes could cost that much or more, and with skater shoes you’re getting protection built right in.
