Choosing the Right Board for Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is a sport that is booming all around the world. Many people are describing this unique sport is the new age of surfing. Anyone all around the world can take advantage of wakeboarding, providing that there is a body of water nearby that can be considered suitable. In order to get started on your own personal wake boarding excursion, you need to have some basic tips in your arsenal that will make it easier and more advantageous to choose the right beginning wake board. Having the right equipment for wake boarding is absolutely vital if you want to learn how to wake board effectively. Having all of the right tools is one of the most important aspects of enjoying your wake boarding adventure, so choose right the first time and you will surely benefit.

Not all of the wake boards that you encounter while shopping around are going to be well suited for you if you are a beginner to this unique and enjoyable water sport, so it would not be wise to simply go out and buy a high quality board right from the start unless you have a good idea of what you are getting yourself into. The best and most expensive wake boards are not going to suddenly, instantaneously turn you into a better wake boarder, so don’t waste your time or money. The shape and the size of your brand new wake board are the determinant factors in whether or not you will get off to a good start, and they will also play a large part in determining how well you do the first time you hit the water.

A wake board that has squared edges is generally going to be one of the best options for beginners, because it will give you a larger amount of control, which is what someone new to the sport should be looking to achieve. You are simply going to want to learn how to gain control first before you learn any cool or interesting tricks. Learning how to wake board is all about taking baby steps and mastering each step before you move on to the next. There are also single and double tipped wake board options. Double tipped boards are ideal for beginners as they are rounded on both ends and offer a higher level of control, and they are also lighter which means that making jumps is simpler as well. You may also want to consider getting a longer board, which is generally more ideal in terms of getting better control while wake boarding.

You never go out onto a baseball field for the first time and begin to hit home runs, and wake boarding for the first time will not allow you to produce incredible tricks. You need to learn control first, and having the right wake board will allow you to achieve this as long as you are willing to take baby steps for the best control.

Wakeboarding: Picking Your Board

wakeboardingWakeboarding is an intriguing surface water sport that was originally known as skurfing because it combines snow boarding, surfing and water skiing principles together. Wakeboarding specifically involves riding the wake of a speedboat while riding on a single board, the wakeboard. There are five different kinds of the products that you need in order to successfully wakeboard, and these products are the bindings, the wake skates, the wake vest, the wakeboard rope and the actual wakeboard itself.

When it comes to choosing the right wakeboard, there are a number of considerations that you need to make, including the rocker, the width, the length, the weight, the bottom design, the fins and the fin placement.

The bend in the wakeboard, which runs from tip to tail, is classified as the rocker. There are two different rocker types to choose from, the 3 stage rocker and the continuous rocker. Continuous rockers are smooth curves which do not change much from tip to tale and are much quicker to ride. The 3 stage rocker on the other hand can gain quite a bit more pop off of the wake, and more closely resembles a skateboard by offering two distinct bend points, though not quite as radically as a skateboard would offer.

The length of the wakeboard has an impact on the spin’s smoothness and speed. The width of the wakeboard, especially in the tip, the tail and dead center, will affect how well it sits in the water, and how hard it bounces when it comes away from the wake. With weight, the lighter wakeboards are easily to maneuver and offer better flex patterns for pops and landings.

The bottom design of a wakeboard is purely cosmetic in nature, giving the user a way to express his or her personal style as well as fine tuning and personalizing how the wakeboard rides through the water. Fins and fin placement for wakeboards dictate the release of the wakeboard. When the fins are closer to the center, the wakeboard is better and quicker when released away from the wake. When the fins are spread apart or closer to tip or tail, then the wakeboard will stay hooked into the wake for longer.

Another wakeboard product that is just as important as the wakeboard itself is the binding. You need to find a foot bed that closely matches your own foot in order to achieve the best possible fit. These materials are capable of stretching as you break them in, so eventually you may need to make regular adjustments not only to keep them in shape but also to keep them feeling proper.

Wakeskates are wakeboard products that are intended to be ridden on the water as a skateboard. They come in different sizes, shapes and surfaces and they do not require bindings in the way that traditional wakeboards do. Skate shoes are used, and there are no real set standards in the way that there are for wakeboarding.

Wakeboarding Rope Tips

wakeboardPart of having the best possible wakeboarding experience means you having access to the right wakeboard rope, as a wakeboard rope is what will link you from the wakeboard to the boat. The importance, then, of this wakeboard role is absolutely vital to making sure that you safely enjoy this thrilling and enjoyable water sport. The first thing that you are going to need in order to enjoy this sport, which is the perfect combination between challenging and exciting, is the balance that is required in order to keep yourself steadily standing on the board while you are being pulled through the water at a truly frightening pace.

Unless you already have experience in surfing or in skiing, then you are going to need to develop some balancing skills in order to be proficient in wakeboarding. If you do not practice your balance skills, you may end up in the water a little fast. Before you begin to wakeboard as a regular, you are going to need to learn how to handle the water, which begins with learning how to lay on your back and float. Your trainer will then teach you how to get into the right position, standing on your wakeboard as the boat pulls you across the open water.

Before you buy a wakeboard rope, you are going to need to have an understanding of all of the different characteristics that a wakeboard rope is capable of possessing. You should never use any other type of rope for a wakeboarding experience, except for real wakeboard rope. Wakeboard rope needs to be capable of withstanding stretches so that you do not face any kind of recoil while you are in the air. Along with a sufficient level of stiffness, the wakeboard rope that you use should also be endowed with an adequate amount of length in order to help you along.

You are likely going to come across wakeboard rope in a variety of different lengths, measuring between 60 feet and 70 feet for example. This wakeboard rope is designed to provide convenience to riders and can be bought in whole lengths or adjustable lengths depending on your needs. The amount of elasticity present in a wakeboard rope may also be capable of varying based on the quality of the rope. Polyethylene ropes, for example, tend to stretch much more readily than ropes made from Spectra. If you are looking to perform airborne stunts, then you should be opting for a tighter variety of wakeboard rope.

If you are still developing your skills as a wake boarder, on the other hand, then you might want a shorter and more elastic rope, which will allow you to get a better feel for what you are doing without all of the recoil. Choosing the right rope is absolutely essential if you want to get the most out of your wake boarding experience next time you hit the water.

Benefits of Surfing

surfboardUnderstanding the benefits of surfing will help you determine whether or not this is the right water sport for you.

First and foremost, do you know what surfing is?

Surfing is a unique activity involving the riding on a wave or riding along a wave using a surfboard. One of the best methods of cross training for the purpose of surfing is to take up swimming. Most of your surfing time is actually going to be spend paddling and swimming than actually riding any waves, and this is an important consideration if you are serious about taking up the sport and seeing what it has to offer you.

Now, what are the benefits of going surfing?

Surfing is a truly excellent fitness activity. The sport of surfing is capable of providing both aerobic and anaerobic exercise components. It requires that the surfer make excellent use of his or her upper body as a result of stroking through the waves, getting out on the waves and then balancing the lower body and the legs in order to ride the wave all the way into shore. Surfing, then, demands a great deal of body balance and body control, and these demands are going to strengthen the interaction that exists between your mind and your body. The surfing environment, the open ocean, is going to help to protect you from injury that occurs as a result of error.

People that go surfing are going to develop a back that is fit and square, shoulders that are strong, back muscles that are strong and legs and arms that are strong.

In order to get all of the full benefits associated with using surfing as a method of exercise, there are a number of skills that you are going to need to develop. The skills that need to be developed for the purpose of surfing include:

  • Improvements in balance, because you will rely heavily upon balance while standing on the board,
  • Paddling and swimming, because you will spend more time paddling and swimming than you will spend on the board riding waves when it comes to surfing,
  • Duck Diving, because this is how to ride through waves or to prepare for an oncoming wave,
  • Spring Paddling right into a wave, which is an important part of surfing,
  • Standing up quickly and with balance on the board, so that you do not end up wrecking before you even get to ride your wave,
  • Turning on the board without falling,
  • Controlling the movement of the board as well as exiting the wave in question,

If you do not already know how to swim or need to improve your swimming capabilities, taking lessons in a surf school is typically a good way for you to go.
